Blood Sugar TesterIf you are using new test strips in your blood sugar monitor and your readings seem unusually high or low, you should investigate the cause to be certain the readings are accurate. Obviously, you should never take insulin based on inaccurate test readings. American Diabetic Supply wants to help you ensure your monitor and strips are working properly.
Check Your Meter for Accuracy
When you use new strips, it is important you calibrate your meter for the new batch. Some monitors do this automatically, while others have to be manually coded. Newer models tend to be automatic, but it's relatively easy to code your monitor if necessary.
You should test your monitor at least once a month to verify it is still working properly. Apply a drop of the control solution (which comes with your meter) to the test strip. If you run out of solution, you can call American Diabetic Supply, and we will send you a new bottle. The reading from the solution check should match the glucose concentration of the control solution you are testing. If it does not, you should call the maker of the monitor. You should always make sure your glucose test strips have not expired.
To be on the safe side, you can have your doctor test your monitor reading with readings performed in the office and compare the results. This is a good option if you think your meter is inaccurate. By keeping your glucometer in good shape and testing for accuracy, you can ensure that you won't have any emergencies as the result of a faulty monitor.
